Ankara Music and Fine Arts University (MGU) is Turkey’s first thematic state university in its field. Completed its official establishment process in July 2017, MGU accepts the first Turkish and international students who want to specialize in music, art, science, technology, and education in a beautiful and dynamic environment with broad horizons. MGU has four faculties, such as the Faculty of Music Sciences and Technologies, Faculty of Performing Arts, Faculty of Music and Fine Arts Education, Faculty of Arts and Design, a Technical Vocational School, and a Graduate Education Institute. Together with research centres and academic units in basic education levels (primary, secondary, and high school levels, special/disabled music education) affiliated with the Ministry of National Education, MGU proposes a broad academic organization covering every sub-area of music.

In 2021, “Prof. Pancho Vladigerov” National Academy of Music celebrated its 100th anniversary. It was founded under the name State Academy of Music with a Royal Decree by Tsar Boris III on the 21 July 1921, in response to the growing need for professional singing teachers and musicians, as the Bulgarian music scene was rapidly expanding in the years after the Liberation. The aim of the National Academy of Music as an educational institution and cultural centre is to provide professional training to future musicians in all areas of music art. Three levels of degree programmes are available – Bachelor’s (four years), Master’s (one, two or five years, depending on whether the student already has a bachelor’s degree or not), and Doctoral (three years). There are over 90-degree courses with syllabuses that are routinely updated and adapted to the latest educational, creative, scientific and pedagogical standards. More than 800 students will have the opportunity to perform in concerts and on stage. Since 2012 at NAM was established and accredited as a Music therapy, a two-year course, which prepares specialists in activities for working with persons with special needs, including autism. Through sound, music, rhythm and movement, combined with various art therapy techniques, the potential for impact with a healing effect is applied, capable of integrating the individual into society.
